Michael Schilonka

Michael Schilonka, founder and managing director of Team Blueshoe since 2014, presents his perspectives on modern software development, digitalisation, open source and the impact on our society.

A message from Michael:

At a time when so many complex dimensions of change are coming together, we summarise Team Blueshoe's goal very simply: We want to create value for business and society. And we concretise this purpose by focusing our efforts on three main areas, which I would like to outline below.

Designing more resilient organisations with open source software

Organisations today face enormous challenges, but are often limited in their ability to adapt by proprietary software dependencies. For me, open source software is the key to true organisational resilience.

Autonomy instead of dependence

True resilience only arises where there is genuine autonomy. Proprietary software makes organisations the plaything of external decisions.

Utilising collective intelligence

Open source software benefits from the contributions of thousands of developers worldwide. This decentralised innovation leads to more robust and secure solutions.

Open source software protects against planned obsolescence. Software can theoretically be used and further developed indefinitely.

My vision

My vision is a world in which organisations can use the digital tools that best suit their goals - without compromising their autonomy.

Every organisation that I can help to become more resilient is a step towards a more decentralised, democratic and sustainable digital world.

Driving innovation and insights

For me, innovation and analytical insights are not just professional tools, but a way of living and understanding the world. In a time of increasing complexity and uncertainty, I see the combination of data-driven analysis and innovative thinking as the key to real progress.

Create connections

What particularly fascinates me is the ability to connect seemingly unrelated insights. I see my role as making these connections visible and opening up new possibilities.

Democratisation of knowledge

Another aspect that is important to me: Innovation should not take place in ivory towers. I see it as my job to present complex interrelationships in such a way that they can be utilised by different target groups.

My mission

For me, it is a mission to help organisations and people recognise the potential of their data and turn it into innovative solutions. Every insight I generate, every innovation I drive forward is a contribution to a more thoughtful world.

That is my passion, my drive and my contribution to a better future.

Why openness and self-confidence are important to me

For me, openness and self-awareness are not just personal qualities, but fundamental attitudes that characterise my life and my work. They form the foundation for authentic relationships, continuous growth and the ability to navigate in a complex world.

If I know who I am and what I can do, I don't have to pretend or please others. This creates clarity in my decisions and allows me to be honest about my limitations. Paradoxically, this honesty about my weaknesses makes me stronger, not weaker.

People trust me more when I am authentic than when I try to appear perfect. This experience has fundamentally changed my understanding of leadership and collaboration. Strength is not shown by hiding weaknesses, but by dealing with them openly.
